Union Membership in 2025

According to calculations from Current Population Survey microdata released today, the US union membership rate in 2025 was 10.0 percent, up from 9.9 percent in 2024. The union coverage rate, which includes non-members covered by contracts, was 11.2 percent in 2025, up from 11.1 percent in 2024.

In 2025, 14.7 million workers were union members, an increase of 411,000 from 2024. In the latest year, 16.5 million workers were covered by union contracts, an increase of 463,000 from 2024. In 2025, the US added 1.7 million non-union jobs.
